The data_description of anomaly detection jobs used to accept
delimited data, although this was never documented.
This change removes the delimited option from the data_description,
and the associated functionality in post_data that handled it.
This is not a breaking change because it's removing functionality
that officially never existed. However, just in case somebody
was using it it is only removed from 8.0 and higher, so that at
least they won't find out during a patch install.
Yaml tests are flaky as the stats index could be just recently created when we try to cleanup after the test run.
This fixes that by moving the tests into a ESRestTestCase class and waiting for the .ml-stats indices to be created before running the post test cleanup.

Related to #71593 we move all build logic that is for elasticsearch build only into
the org.elasticsearch.gradle.internal* packages
This makes it clearer if build logic is considered to be used by external projects
Ultimately we want to only expose TestCluster and PluginBuildPlugin logic
to third party plugin authors.
This is a very first step towards that direction.
A `model_alias` allows trained models to be referred by a user defined moniker.
This not only improves the readability and simplicity of numerous API calls, but it allows for simpler deployment and upgrade procedures for trained models.
Previously, if you referenced a model ID directly within an ingest pipeline, when you have a new model that performs better than an earlier referenced model, you have to update the pipeline itself. If this model was used in numerous pipelines, ALL those pipelines would have to be updated.
When using a `model_alias` in an ingest pipeline, only that `model_alias` needs to be updated. Then, the underlying referenced model will change in place for all ingest pipelines automatically.
An additional benefit is that the model referenced is not changed until it is fully loaded into cache, this way throughput is not hampered by changing models.
As per the new licensing change for Elasticsearch and Kibana this commit
moves existing Apache 2.0 licensed source code to the new dual license
SSPL+Elastic license 2.0. In addition, existing x-pack code now uses
the new version 2.0 of the Elastic license. Full changes include:
- Updating LICENSE and NOTICE files throughout the code base, as well
as those packaged in our published artifacts
- Update IDE integration to now use the new license header on newly
created source files
- Remove references to the "OSS" distribution from our documentation
- Update build time verification checks to no longer allow Apache 2.0
license header in Elasticsearch source code
- Replace all existing Apache 2.0 license headers for non-xpack code
with updated header (vendored code with Apache 2.0 headers obviously
remains the same).
- Replace all Elastic license 1.0 headers with new 2.0 header in xpack.
Removes an ingest pipeline that might cause a write to leak into
another test and moves that test to a rest test. Also removes
deprecated direct access to a ml system index
We were depending on the BouncyCastle FIPS own mechanics to set
itself in approved only mode since we run with the Security
Manager enabled. The check during startup seems to happen before we
set our restrictive SecurityManager though in
org.elasticsearch.bootstrap.Elasticsearch , and this means that
BCFIPS would not be in approved only mode, unless explicitly
configured so.
This commit sets the appropriate JVM property to explicitly set
BCFIPS in approved only mode in CI and adds tests to ensure that we
will be running with BCFIPS in approved only mode when we expect to.
It also sets xpack.security.fips_mode.enabled to true for all test clusters
used in fips mode and sets the distribution to the default one. It adds a
password to the elasticsearch keystore for all test clusters that run in fips
mode.
Moreover, it changes a few unit tests where we would use bcrypt even in
FIPS 140 mode. These would still pass since we are bundling our own
bcrypt implementation, but are now changed to use FIPS 140 approved
algorithms instead for better coverage.
It also addresses a number of tests that would fail in approved only mode
Mainly:
Tests that use PBKDF2 with a password less than 112 bits (14char). We
elected to change the passwords used everywhere to be at least 14
characters long instead of mandating
the use of pbkdf2_stretch because both pbkdf2 and
pbkdf2_stretch are supported and allowed in fips mode and it makes sense
to test with both. We could possibly figure out the password algorithm used
for each test and adjust password length accordingly only for pbkdf2 but
there is little value in that. It's good practice to use strong passwords so if
our docs and tests use longer passwords, then it's for the best. The approach
is brittle as there is no guarantee that the next test that will be added won't
use a short password, so we add some testing documentation too.
This leaves us with a possible coverage gap since we do support passwords
as short as 6 characters but we only test with > 14 chars but the
validation itself was not tested even before. Tests can be added in a followup,
outside of fips related context.
Tests that use a PKCS12 keystore and were not already muted.
Tests that depend on running test clusters with a basic license or
using the OSS distribution as FIPS 140 support is not available in
neither of these.
Finally, it adds some information around FIPS 140 testing in our testing
documentation reference so that developers can hopefully keep in
mind fips 140 related intricacies when writing/changing docs.
This change makes threads that send a command to the ML
controller process wait for it to respond to the command.
Previously such threads would block until the command was
sent, but not until it was actioned. This was on the
assumption that the sort of commands being sent would be
actioned almost instantaneously, but that assumption has
been shown to be false when anti-malware software is
running.

This is to allow merging of elastic/ml-cpp#1520 and #63542
without causing every single CI build to fail.
These changes will be reverted in #63542 after downloadable
snapshots containing the changes of elastic/ml-cpp#1520 are
available.
For 1/2 the plugins in x-pack, the integTest
task is now a no-op and all of the tests are now executed via a test,
yamlRestTest, javaRestTest, or internalClusterTest.
This includes the following projects:
async-search, autoscaling, ccr, enrich, eql, frozen-indicies,
data-streams, graph, ilm, mapper-constant-keyword, mapper-flattened, ml
A few of the more specialized qa projects within these plugins
have not been changed with this PR due to additional complexity which should
be addressed separately.
A follow up PR will address the remaining x-pack plugins (this PR is big enough as-is).

Inference processors asynchronously usage write stats to the .ml-stats index after they used.
In tests the write can leak into the next test causing failures depending on which test follows.
This change waits for the usage stats docs to be written at the end of the test
- Use java-library instead of plugin to allow api configuration usage
- Remove explicit references to runtime configurations in dependency declarations
- Make test runtime classpath input for testing convention
- required as java library will by default not have build jar file
- jar file is now explicit input of the task and gradle will ensure its properly build

We believe there's no longer a need to be able to disable basic-license
features completely using the "xpack.*.enabled" settings. If users don't
want to use those features, they simply don't need to use them. Having
such features always available lets us build more complex features that
assume basic-license features are present.
This commit deprecates settings of the form "xpack.*.enabled" for
basic-license features, excluding "security", which is a special case.
It also removes deprecated settings from integration tests and unit
tests where they're not directly relevant; e.g. monitoring and ILM are
no longer disabled in many integration tests.
This fixes the long muted testHRDSplit. Some minor adjustments for modern day elasticsearch changes :).
The cause of the failure is that a new `by` field entering the model with an exceptionally high count does not cause an anomaly. We have since stopped combining the `rare` and `by` in this manner. New entries in a `by` field are not anomalous because we have no history on them yet.

This is a simple naming change PR, to fix the fact that "metadata" is a
single English word, and for too long we have not followed general
naming conventions for it. We are also not consistent about it, for
example, METADATA instead of META_DATA if we were trying to be
consistent with MetaData (although METADATA is correct when considered
in the context of "metadata"). This was a simple find and replace across
the code base, only taking a few minutes to fix this naming issue
forever.
Closes#28450. Convert most `awaitBusy` calls to `assertBusy`, and use
asserts where possible. Follows on from #28548 by @liketic.
There were a small number of places where it didn't make sense to me to
call `assertBusy`, so I kept the existing calls but renamed the method to
`waitUntil`. This was partly to better reflect its usage, and partly so
that anyone trying to add a new call to awaitBusy wouldn't be able to find
it.
I also didn't change the usage in `TransportStopRollupAction` as the
comments state that the local awaitBusy method is a temporary
copy-and-paste.
Other changes:
* Rework `waitForDocs` to scale its timeout. Instead of calling
`assertBusy` in a loop, work out a reasonable overall timeout and await
just once.
* Some tests failed after switching to `assertBusy` and had to be fixed.
* Correct the expect templates in AbstractUpgradeTestCase. The ES
Security team confirmed that they don't use templates any more, so
remove this from the expected templates. Also rewrite how the setup
code checks for templates, in order to give more information.
* Remove an expected ML template from XPackRestTestConstants The ML team
advised that the ML tests shouldn't be waiting for any
`.ml-notifications*` templates, since such checks should happen in the
production code instead.
* Also rework the template checking code in `XPackRestTestHelper` to give
more helpful failure messages.
Test clusters currently has its own set of logic for dealing with
finding different versions of Elasticsearch, downloading them, and
extracting them. This commit converts testclusters to use the
DistributionDownloadPlugin.
This commit moves the aggregation and mapping code from joda time to
java time. This includes field mappers, root object mappers, aggregations with date
histograms, query builders and a lot of changes within tests.
The cut-over to java time is a requirement so that we can support nanoseconds
properly in a future field mapper.

We make sure to specify include_type_name=true during xContent parsing,
so we continue to test the legacy typed responses. XContent generation
for the typeless responses is currently only covered by REST tests,
but we will be adding unit test coverage for these as we implement
each typeless API in the Java HLRC.
This commit also refactors GetMappingsResponse to follow the same appraoch
as the other mappings-related responses, where we read include_type_name
out of the xContent params, instead of creating a second toXContent method.
This gives better consistency in the response parsing code.

#33708 introduced a strict deprecation mode that makes a REST request
fail if there is a warning header in the response returned by
Elasticsearch (usually a deprecation message signaling that a feature
or a field has been deprecated).
This change adds the strict deprecation mode into the REST integration
tests, and makes the tests fail if a deprecated feature is used. Also
any test using a deprecated feature has been modified to pass the build.
The YAML integration tests already analyzed HTTP warnings so they do
not use this mode, keeping their "expected vs actual" behavior.
All of the tests in PainlessDomainSplitIT have an awaitsfix, which
causes the build to fail since no tests are run. This adds an empty
test to get the build going again.

This commit moves the definition of domainSplit into java and exposes it
as a painless whitelist extension. The method also no longer needs
params, and version which ignores params is added and deprecated.
In #29623 we added `Request` object flavored requests to the low level
REST client and in #30315 we deprecated the old `performRequest`s. This
changes all calls in the `x-pack/plugin/ml/qa/native-multi-node-tests`,
`x-pack/plugin/ml/qa/single-node-tests` projects to use the new
versions.
This reworks how we configure the `shadow` plugin in the build. The major
change is that we no longer bundle dependencies in the `compile` configuration,
instead we bundle dependencies in the new `bundle` configuration. This feels
more right because it is a little more "opt in" rather than "opt out" and the
name of the `bundle` configuration is a little more obvious.
As an neat side effect of this, the `runtimeElements` configuration used when
one project depends on another now contains exactly the dependencies needed
to run the project so you no longer need to reference projects that use the
shadow plugin like this:

You can instead use the much more normal:

This commit moves the ML QA tests to be a sub-project of ML. The purpose
of this refactoring is to enable ML developers to run
:x-pack:plugin:ml:check and run the vast majority of a ML tests with a
single command (this still does not contain the ML REST tests, nor the
upgrade tests). This simplifies local development for faster iteration.
