Neil Horman 0fdbcf4c3c Add a test for debuginfo generation
Add a check to ensure debug info generation works.

We piggyback on a test that already builds DWARF symbols (--debug)
The test
1) makes the debuginfo files
2) runs gdb, loading the libcrypto.so.3 file
3) Check to make sure that the output of gdb indicates that it loads the
.debug file base on the reference in the loaded file

Dimitri John Ledkov 8945f406a7 fips: allow to customize provider vendor name
FIPS providers need to specify identifiable names and versions. Allow
to customize the fips provider name prefix, via VERSION.dat which
already allows to customize version & buildinfo. With this patch
in-place it removes the need of patching code to set customized

E.g. echo FIPS_VENDOR=ACME >> VERSION.dat, results in

Dimitri John Ledkov b28b312804 jitter: add a new provider containing a jitter entropy source alone
This entropy source can be used instead of SEED-SRC. Sample
openssl.cnf configuration is provided. It is built as a separate
provider, because it is likely to require less frequent updates than
fips provider. The same build likely can span multiple generations of
FIPS 140 standard revisions.

Note that rand-instances currently chain from public/private instances
to primary, prior to consuming the seed. Thus currently a unique ESV
needs to be obtained, and resue of jitterentropy.a certificate is not
possible as is. Separately a patch will be sent to allow for
unchaining public/private RAND instances for the purpose of reusing
ESV.

Also I do wonder if it makes sense to create a fips variant of stock
SEED-SRC entropy source, which in addition to using getrandom() also
verifies that the kernel is operating in FIPS mode and thus is likely
a validated entropy source. As in on Linux, check that
/proc/sys/crypto/fips_enabled is set to 1, and similar checks on
Windows / MacOS and so on.

Neil Horman 97bfbb98b0 Allow openssl version to function in the absence of a config file
the openssl application attempts to load a config file on startup
always, calling x509_get_default_cert_area() to locate the file. On

Neil Horman a8f99f98d6 Avoid chicken and egg problem with reg setting
Because openssl with -DOSSL_WINCTX no longer falls back to build time
defines, we have a chicken and egg problem. CI needs to query openssl
for its version string so registry keys can be set properly, but openssl
version refuses to run because no configuration file can be found

So we work around it by, for the purposes of setting the registry keys,
we set OPENSSL_CONF to a know config file, so that openssl version runs
properly.

Once the version is extracted, we can set the registry keys, and openssl
will function properly without OPENSSL_CONF set

The github workflow that attempts to check that OpenSSL ANSI C compatible

Instead of '_DEFAULT_SOURCE', this modification defines '_XOPEN_SOURCE=1' and

Neil Horman 067fbc01b9 Reduce optimization in hppa builds
We're getting some odd errors in the lhash test on hppa. Analysis shows
that the crash is happening randomly in various places, but always
occurs during an indexed load of register r11 or r23. Root cause hasn't
been completely determined, but given that:

1) hppa is an unadopted platform
2) asan/ubsan/threadsan shows no issues with the affected code elsewhere
3) The hppa build does not have threading enabled
4) reducing the optimization level to 01 quashes the problem

The belief is that this is either a bug in gcc optimization, or an issue
in the qemu emulator we use to test.

Since this is causing CI failures, I'm proposing that we just lower the
optimization level of the build to -01 to avoid the problem, and address
it more throughly should an actual platform user encounter an error

Neil Horman 37cd49f57f Fix ASLR to be smaller during asan/tsan/ubsan runs
Recently asan/tsan/ubsan runs have been failing randomly. It appears
that a recent runner update may have led to the Address Space Layout
Randomization setting in the linux kernel of ubuntu-latest runner
getting set to too high a value (it defaults to 30). Such a setting
leads to the possibility that a given application will have memory
mapped to an address space that the sanitizer code typically uses to do
its job. Lowering this value allows a/t/ubsan to work consistently
again

Stanislav Zidek f38d9b74c9 interop tests: Fedora 39 config, simplify updates
Imitating Fedora 39 configuration in openssl.cnf with
SECLEVEL lowered to 0 in order to be able to run
TLS 1.3 tests with TLS_AES_128_CCM_8_SHA256.

In order to make updating smoother, check out specific tag rather
than the branch. This way, "old" tests can be fetched until PR
pointing to "new" tests is merged, so backwards-incompatible
changes can be done when needed.

Files specific for openssl upstream moved to separate
directory.

Randall S. Becker 99fb31c167 Add atexit configuration option to using atexit() in libcrypto at build-time.
This fixes an issue with a mix of atexit() usage in DLL and statically linked
libcrypto that came out in the test suite on NonStop, which has slightly
different DLL unload processing semantics compared to Linux. The change
allows a build configuration to select whether to register OPENSSL_cleanup()
with atexit() or not, so avoid situations where atexit() registration causes
SIGSEGV.

INSTALL.md and CHANGES.md have been modified to include and describe this
option.

The no-atexit option has been added to .github/workflows/run-checker-daily.yml.

libabigail is currenly only validating symbol presence and version
information in ci. We should also be validating function parameters,

Christoph Müllner 45972000b4 Revert "CI: cross-compile: riscv: Add RV64 machine with Zb* and Zk*"
This reverts commit e787c57c53.

The current CI host system is Ubuntu 22.04, which ships with QEMU 6.2.
This QEMU release is too old for the required RISC-V extensions.
We would need at least QEMU 7.1 (Aug 2022) for this patch.

Let's revert the patch.

Christoph Müllner e787c57c53 CI: cross-compile: riscv: Add RV64 machine with Zb* and Zk*
RISC-V already has a couple of routines to accelerate cryptographic
calculations using ISA extensions. Let's add a cross-compile target
that allows the CI to test this code.

The new defined machine is a rv64gc machine with
* all Bitmanip extensions (Zb*)
* all Scalar Crypto extensions (Zk*)

This selection matches the supported RISC-V extensions in OpenSSL.

Christoph Müllner af0a4c4684 CI: cross-compile: Allow to set CPU capabilities
The cross-compile CI tests use cross-compilers for building
and QEMU for testing. This implies that testing of ISA extension
for HW accelerated cryptographic calculations is undefined
(it depends on arch-specific QEMU defaults and arch-specific
detection mechanisms in OpenSSL).

Let's add a mechanism to set two environment variables, that allow
to control the ISA extensions:
* QEMU_CPU: used by QEMU to specify CPU capabilities of the emulation
* OPENSSL_*: used by OpenSSL (on some architectures) to enable ISA
  extensions.

Todd Short 0113ec8460 Implement AES-GCM-SIV (RFC8452)
Fixes #16721

This uses AES-ECB to create a counter mode AES-CTR32 (32bit counter, I could
not get AES-CTR to work as-is), and GHASH to implement POLYVAL. Optimally,
there would be separate polyval assembly implementation(s), but the only one
I could find (and it was SSE2 x86_64 code) was not Apache 2.0 licensed.

This implementation lives only in the default provider; there is no legacy
implementation.

The code offered in #16721 is not used; that implementation sits on top of
OpenSSL, this one is embedded inside OpenSSL.

Full test vectors from RFC8452 are included, except the 0 length plaintext;
that is not supported; and I'm not sure it's worthwhile to do so.

* Ubuntu 22.04 ships with Clang 14

We switch from 'ubuntu-latest' (which can change meaning but currently points
to ubuntu-20.04) to ubuntu-20.04 for the older existing compilers, and
ubuntu-22.04 for the newer ones added by this commit.
