Eugene Syromiatnikov 70c05fcde5 Remove HARNESS_OSSL_PREFIX manipulation in the test harness
The aim of HARNESS_OSSL_PREFIX environment variable is to avoid contaminating
TAP producer's output with stanzas that can be interpreted by a TAP producer
by prefixing them with comment; this can be achieved by processing
the output within the runner instead, as it already does for non-standard
prefixes; it also has the added benefit of alleviating the need
to reset it for the external tests in order to avoid messing
with their output checks.

Richard Levitte 2fe2279d1f Enhance the srctop, bldtop, data and result functions to check the result
This affects bldtop_dir, bldtop_file, srctop_dir, srctop_file,
data_dir, data_file, result_dir, and result_file.  They are all
enhanced to check that the resulting path really is a directory or a
file. They only do this if the path exists.

This allows the tests to catch if these functions are used
incorrectly, even on systems where the syntax for directories and
files is the same.

Not all tests come with a SRCDATA directory. if it doesn't exist, we

util/wrap.pl is a script that defines the environment variables
OPENSSL_ENGINES and OPENSSL_MODULES, then calls the command line

On a POSIX platform, the command line call is done via
util/shlib_wrap.sh to ensure that the shared library paths are
correct. For other platforms, util/wrap.pl currently assumes that
similar things are already in place through other means.

Richard Levitte f0790d4d2f TEST: Create test specific output directories
We had all tests run with test/test-runs/ as working directory, and
tests cleaned up after themselves... which is well and good, until
you want to have a look at what went wrong when a complex test fails,
and you have to recreate everything it does manually.

To remedy this, we have OpenSSL::Test create the result directory
dynamically (and cleaning it up first if it's already there) and let
the test recipe have that as working directory.

Test recipes are now encouraged to name their diverse output files
uniquely, and not to clean them up, to allow a developer to have a
look at the files that were produced.

With continuous integration that allows this, the result directories
could also be archived and be left as a build artifact.

Richard Levitte 612539e8a6 OpenSSL::Test: bring back the relative paths
Because there was a bug in File::Spec::Unix' abs2rel when it was given
relative paths as both PATH and BASE arguments, the directories we
deal with were made to be all absolute. Unfortunately, this meant
getting paths in our verbose test output which are difficult to use
anywhere else (such as a separate test build made for comparison), due
to the constant need to edit all the paths all the time.

We're therefore getting back the relative paths, by doing an extra
abs2rel() in __srctop_file, __srctop_dir, __bldtop_file and
__bldtop_dir, with a 'Cwd::getcwd' call as BASE argument.

Martin Peylo 7a2027240e Adding Test.pm with workaround for Perl abs2rel bug
If SRCTOP != BLDTOP, and SRCTOP is given in relative form, e.g.
"./config ../openssl", then a bug in Perl's abs2rel may trigger that directory-
rewriting in __cwd results in wrong entries in %directories under certain
circumstances, e.g. when a test executes run(app(["openssl"]) after indir.

There should not be any need to go to a higher directory from BLDDIR or SRCDIR,
so it should be OK to use them in their absolute form, also resolving all
possible symlinks, right from the start.

Following the File::Spec::Functions bug description (reported to perl.org):

When abs2rel gets a path argument with ..s that are crossing over the ..s
trailing the base argument, the result is wrong.

Example
PATH: /home/goal/test/..
BASE: /home/goal/test/../../base
Good result: ../goal
Bad  result: ../..

Richard Levitte 3a63dbef15 Switch to MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH versioning and version 3.0.0-dev
We're strictly use version numbers of the form MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH.
Letter releases are things of days past.

The most central change is that we now express the version number with
three macros, one for each part of the version number:

    OPENSSL_VERSION_MAJOR
    OPENSSL_VERSION_MINOR
    OPENSSL_VERSION_PATCH

We also provide two additional macros to express pre-release and build
metadata information (also specified in semantic versioning):

    OPENSSL_VERSION_PRE_RELEASE
    OPENSSL_VERSION_BUILD_METADATA

To get the library's idea of all those values, we introduce the
following functions:

    unsigned int OPENSSL_version_major(void);
    unsigned int OPENSSL_version_minor(void);
    unsigned int OPENSSL_version_patch(void);
    const char *OPENSSL_version_pre_release(void);
    const char *OPENSSL_version_build_metadata(void);

Additionally, for shared library versioning (which is out of scope in
semantic versioning, but that we still need):

    OPENSSL_SHLIB_VERSION

We also provide a macro that contains the release date. This is not
part of the version number, but is extra information that we want to
be able to display:

    OPENSSL_RELEASE_DATE

Finally, also provide the following convenience functions:

    const char *OPENSSL_version_text(void);
    const char *OPENSSL_version_text_full(void);

The following macros and functions are deprecated, and while currently
existing for backward compatibility, they are expected to disappear:

    OPENSSL_VERSION_NUMBER
    OPENSSL_VERSION_TEXT
    OPENSSL_VERSION
    OpenSSL_version_num()
    OpenSSL_version()

Also, this function is introduced to replace OpenSSL_version() for all
indexes except for OPENSSL_VERSION:

    OPENSSL_info()

For configuration, the option 'newversion-only' is added to disable all
the macros and functions that are mentioned as deprecated above.

Richard Levitte efe749c840 Refuse to run test_cipherlist unless shared library matches build
test/cipherlist_test.c is an internal consistency check, and therefore
requires that the shared library it runs against matches what it was
built for. test/recipes/test_cipherlist.t is made to refuse running
unless library version and build version match.

This adds a helper program test/versions.c, that simply displays the
library and the build version.

Richard Levitte 71bb86f0dc Make sure that apps/openssl prefixes its output with '# ' during tests
The reason to do this is that some output might start with an 'ok',
which TAP catches and takes for TAP output. The TAP compatible way is
to make all output it shouldn't catch look like comments.

We do this by setting the environment variable HARNESS_OSSL_PREFIX
during tests. When that is set, apps/openssl uses BIO_f_linebuffer
and sets its prefix to the content of that environment variable.
